A BRIEF HISTORY

1. The art of woven tapestry dates back to the 11th century.

Although their original purpose was to curtain homes from the cold, tapestries rapidly became a symbol of wealth and refinement, both in terms of craftsmanship and pictorial art. Several craftsmen achieved fame on the old continent, in France (De Blase or Dubout in the 15th century), Flanders or Italy.

France owes its finest masterpieces to Aubusson and the Gobelins workshop. Nowadays, ancient techniques and craftsmanship are passed on through the workshops of the « Mobilier national », neighbouring the Gobelins workshops in Paris, along with the rehabilitation of the national heritage. This is where I became a skilled worker and rehabilitation artist, over a period of four years.
